Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icons will be performing for the virtual concert “Awit Para sa Mga Bata” to support children who have been struggling to learn from home amid the global covid-19 pandemic.
Among those participating are Gary Valenciano, Lea Salonga, Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Ogie Alcasid, Arnel Pineda, Bamboo, Gian Magdangal, Lara Maigue, Kayla Rivera, and Sam Shoaf.
Produced by theater artists Menchu Lauchengco Yulo and Michael Williams together with Save the Children Philippines, the charity concert is part of the online fundraising campaign “eSave Natin ang Pasko” which launched a series of joyous and meaningful activities to provide joy and hope to children in the coming holiday season.
The proceeds of the Christmas fundraiser will support the learning needs of disadvantaged children from typhoon-stricken places in Eastern Visayas and the conflict-affected areas in Mindanao. It will also support children with disabilities and those from indigenous communities and far-flung areas.
The country’s famous OPM artists will serenade Filipinos wherever they may be with Christmas songs in the “Awit Para sa Mga Bata” 24-hour benefit concert from December 18 to 19, 2020, which begins at 7:00 p.m.
The e-concert will also include special appearances from Save the Children celebrity Ambassadors Katarina Rodriguez, Ria Atayde, and Xia Vigor, as well as performances from the Quarentados ‘82 Smulers of Philippine Science High School Batch ’82 Choir and the kids from Annie the Musical.
“Even if classes are conducted through distance learning or will resume via face-to-face, millions of children will still need our support as they continue to be deprived of their right to education since their families do not have the means to support their learning needs,” said Atty. Alberto Muyot, Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children Philippines.
Every ticket priced at PHP800 counts as a donation that will provide one needy family with a Family Learning Kit to help children learn during the pandemic.

OPM artists like Ogie Alcasid, Christian Bautista, Quest, and the Perkins Twins earlier performed for the “One Voice for Children” virtual concert which funds World Vision’s education projects that aim to assist children during this pandemic.
Actors Alden Richards, Carmina Villarroel-Legaspi, and Heart Evangelista also supported the new normal schooling needs of children by giving away e-learning gadgets.
