Bambike’s handcrafted bamboo bikes are boosting tourism, providing sustainable livelihood, and helping the island province of Guimaras in its advocacy to become the ‘Bike Paradise of the Philippines.’

The sustainable travel initiative features Bambike Revolution Cycles’ unique hand-crafted bamboo bicycles that are built within the framework of a sustainable community development project such as the Bambike EcoTours in Manila’s Walled City of Intramuros.

The mango capital of the country and the 1st coal-free province in the Visayas continues its mission of environmental awareness with the bicycle that uses bamboo for its parts such as the over-all frames, head tube bars, chainstay, and saddle post.

The Bambike EcoTours is part of the “The Green Spark Project” launched on December 7, 2020, a collaborative project between the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) with Guimaras Wind, Provincial Government of Guimaras, and Bambike Revolution Cycles.

Bambike EcoTours promotes a “green revolution” in the tourism sector while generating sustainable livelihood for San Lorenzo, Guimaras’ communities.

As biking became a widely used activity since the onslaught of COVID-19, the team behind Green Spark is maximizing the opportunity by promoting Guimaras’s eco-tourism experience using Filipino-made bicycles.

The locals are also generating income from the project as they hand-build the iconic bikes while others serve as the tour guides.

Reagahn C. Alcantara, Lead Specialist of the Corporate Initiatives and Advocates Division-Office of the President of NGCP, shared the rationale behind the initiative.

“Basically as the name connotes for itself “green spark” what we want to achieve here is to create a green revolution. We want to spark green revolution in the tourism sector. This is one way of NGCP to contribute in a little way to the economy of Guimaras. We hope that through this Spark Project we could appreciate more the beauty of biking,” Alcantara said at the launching ceremony.

Guimaras is now offering Bambike Ecotours using these bamboo bikes to create unique and meaningful experiences off the beaten paths.

SEND CHEERS in the comments below to Guimaras for launching its bamboo bikes ecotours to promote sustainable tourism while providing a livelihood for the locals.
