Solar energy movement Liter of Light is dedicating 3,000 solar lights to form a stunning display representing the Philippine flag on Bonifacio Day to salute to all frontliners who have risked their lives to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Philippines’ grassroots movement for the eco-friendly initiative bringing sustainable solar lighting to people with limited or no access to electricity is holding the “Bonifacio Bayaning Frontliner: A Giant Artwork Solar-lighting Event” on November 30, 2020, as a tribute to the heroism of Filipino frontline workers and signify the oneness of the nation in the global fight against the novel coronavirus disease.
“Liter of Light wishes to honor the sacrifices and contribution of our modern-day heroes. Filipino frontliners here and around the world represent a substantial number of this humanitarian army that are fighting this great epidemic,” Liter of Light founder and ASEAN champion Illac Diaz said.
“We want to take their personal stories and put them in a large tribute to honor more than 20 percent of these Filipino frontliners dedicating themselves for the preservation of life around the world,” Diaz added.
Volunteers of the tribute event will first feature the Philippine flag in a grand display made of assembled solar lights in Luneta Park, Manila, as well as other inspiring images that will be formed in the next few weeks during the Christmas season.
The solar lights to be used in the display are products of the viral and the Asia Pacific Social Innovation and Partnership Award (APSIPSA)-awarded “Light it Forward” video challenge that asks people at home to create solar lamps to be donated to communities without electricity while paying tribute to Covid frontline workers. The social media campaign was supported by GoodNewsPilipinas.com and the Rotary Club of Makati Business District.
The stunning visual tableau celebrating Filipino solidarity against Covid will be launched on Bonifacio Day and follows the social campaign “Good Light Messages of Hope” led by the organization in partnership with Good News Pilipinas which used solar lamps to form encouraging words from everyday heroes into solar messages of hope for Filipinos and medical frontliners everywhere.
After the event, the Light it Forward solar lamps will be distributed to off-grid communities around the country including those that have been ravaged by the recent typhoons Rolly and Ulysses, with the help of its partner airline, Air Asia Philippines.
