Local brand Papel ni Juan is donating eco-friendly, recycled bond paper to help public schools produce printed learning modules for students under the new normal of schooling.
The Filipino brand was born in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic to address the shortage of paper supply in local communities and schools using printed self-learning modules (SLMs) for students which are needed for their blended and distance learning at home.
The brand learned that up to four public school students share modules and textbooks on a rotation basis in areas affected by the lack of funding for distance learning materials.
“We asked ourselves what we can do to help students and families affected by the pandemic, how we can support local communities during this time, and how do we make a necessity more reachable? Thus, Papel ni Juan was born,” the Filipino brand wrote on social media.
Papel ni Juan is currently coordinating with local government units (LGUs) and schools to provide high-quality multi-purpose paper materials for learners. For every 100 reams purchased from October through December 2020, the brand will be donating 5 reams of their eco-friendly paper to selected LGUs and partner organizations.
One ream of Papel ni Juan’s paper can provide one student a week’s worth of self-learning modules. The brand has been able to donate 500 reams of paper to the Office of Vice President Leni Robredo and Save the Children through Project Aral (donation of 300 reams), among others.
Papel ni Juan’s acid-free, 100 percent recycled paper comes in short size (PhP130/ream), A4 (P140/ream), and long size (P150/ream) sold on their website and Shopee. You can also contact Papel ni Juan on their Facebook page.
Palawan non-profit Ink2Link has likewise provided disadvantaged students its paper products and printing materials to help them cope with the new normal of schooling in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
