JUST IN: University of the Philippines graduates lead over 3.5k new doctors

University of the Philippines Manila College of Medicine graduates topped the November 2020 Physician Licensure Examination (PLE) results released today.

The UP graduates led the 3,538 board passers out of 4,704 who took the Licensure exams held in November 2020 given by the Board of Medicine in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga.

UP’s Jomel Garcia Lapides grabbed the No. 1 spot among the topnotchers. The state university also ranked 3rd, two graduates at the 5th spot- one of them is UP’s highest grade holder Tiffany Uy, two at the 8th, and another two students at the 10th spot, in the list released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on November 26, 2020.

Lapides, who also ranked first in the 2011 nursing licensure exam with a rating of 88.4%, garnered 88.67% to again finish at No. 1 in the 2020 PLE.

The medicine board topnotchers included 1 from University of Saint La Salle, 4 from University of Sto Tomas (UST), 3 from Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH), 1 from Lyceum Northwestern University Dagupan City, 2 from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), and 1 from Davao Medical School Foundation.

4. Rafael Emmanual Bueno Mendoza of ASMPH – 88.17%

5. Hannah Tulipat Chito of UP Manila – 88.08%
Chino Paolo Milan Samson of Lyceum Northwestern University Dagupan City – 88.08%
Tiffany Grace Cheng Uy of UP Manila – 88.08%

6. Florence Marie Pineda Maramba of UST- 88%

7. Czarina Angelli Llamas Anastacio of PLM – 87.92%
Ernest Paul Yongco Calasanz of PLM – 87.92%

8. Jem Marie Patalingjug Golbin of UP Manila – 87.75%
Eric David Bicaldo Ornos of UP Manila – 87.75%

9. Louie Lorenzo Mendoza Alcantara of ASMPH – 87.67%
Mark Pascual Dumago of UST – 87.67%

10. John Raphael Tabirao Almanza of UP Manila – 87.58%
Christian John Salang Capirig of Davao Medical School Foundation – 87.58%
Markyn Jared Ngo Kho of UP Manila – 87.58%
Chelsea Colleen Gatchalian Paris of ASMPH – 87.58%

The Cebu Institute of Medicine was named the top-performing school for November 2020 PLE with a 100% passing rate followed by UP Manila with 98.63%.

UP Manila had earlier this year also topped the Physical and Occupational Therapist board exams with a 100% passing rate while Maria Carla Buenaflor topped the March/September medical doctor’s licensure exam.
