Filipino actor Jericho Rosales and Miss Universe Philippines 2020 2nd runner-up Michele Gumabao are among the celebrities who swiftly acted to help in the rescue and relief efforts for the victims of typhoon Ulysses in Metro Manila.
Immediately after typhoon Ulysses struck Luzon on November 11, 2020, only a few days after Supertyphoon Rolly hit the Bicol region, the popular artists were seen showing compassion to their fellow citizens during and after the onslaught of the typhoon by personally rescuing stranded individuals in their homes and leading relief operations in affected areas.
The Filipino celebrities who showed heroic acts during the typhoon are Jericho Rosales and his wife Kim Jones and Youtube vlogger Donnalyn Bartolome. Michele Gumabao and Youtube influencer Team Payaman joined the feeding and relief drive after the crisis.
“Basurero” actor Jericho Rosales and his wife Kim Jones, both surfing enthusiasts, were admired by netizens as they used their surfboards to assist the rescuers in helping trapped individuals in Marikina as floods submerged their houses up to the roof level.
“This morning paglabas namin, baha na. Usually kapag baha dito kasi, ganyan talaga. Laging ganyan ang problema. Sometimes walang boats or flotation devices so naglabas kami ni Kim ng surfboard,” Rosales said in a live interview with ABS-CBN.
Singer and Youtube vlogger Donnalyn Bartolome personally purchased and delivered rubber boats to be used for saving people and animals in Rizal and Marikina. She was also one of the most visible celebrities who called for help during the typhoon.

Athlete and beauty queen Michele Gumabao who joined the relief drive for typhoon Rolly in Bicol was seen again doing humanitarian acts as she helped in the distribution of 5,000 hot meals for displaced families and frontliners in rescue operations.
“More than 5000 meals were provided today by our PNP not only for victims of the typhoon but also for all the frontliners who are braving the floods to rescue stranded residents! I salute our PNP, Army, Navy, Coastguard, and all other Gov and NGO who are at the front lines of service! More than doing their jobs, they are also risking their lives and their health,” wrote Gumabao in a Facebook post.
Youtube vloggers ‘Team Payaman’ led by Cong Velasquez, aka Cong TV, have distributed food packs, diapers, and canned goods among others to evacuees in San Dionisio, Parañaque on November 12.
Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) President of San Dionisio Hannah Florencondia, posted the good deeds of the well-known group on her social media which immediately received praise from the netizens.
“Thank you so much #TeamPayaman led by Cong TV, Viy Cortez, Junnie Boy and, Vien Iligan for extending your help to our Typhoon Ulysses evacuees. Sobrang laking tulong nito para sa mga kabarangay namin. Sana mas marami pa kayong matulungan lalo na sa mga ganitong panahon, wrote the SK Leader.
Filipino “bayanihan” or cooperative work among citizens is visible especially in times of crisis, including the University of the Philippines community who has united for the benefit of typhoon Rolly and Ulysses victims.
