The RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) cashless payments system on expressways will be implemented from November 2.
Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) encourages motorists to install RFID stickers early.
It covers major expressways in the north and south as well as Skyway and NAIA X .
The cashless payment scheme will be implemented from November 2, 2020 on all expressway tolls in the north and south; as well as the order issued by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The leadership of the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) is now urging motorists passing through major tollways to install an RFID sticker on their vehicle as soon as possible before implementing the new system.
The TRB is tasked with overseeing the implementation of the cashless payment system as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus through contactless schemes at toll gates.
“To address the COVID-19 pandemic, the TRB shall ensure that concessionaires and operators shall install electronic tags or other cashless systems, such as, but not limited to, RFID, Automated Fare Collection System (ACFS), etc. for all motorists and motor vehicles using the toll expressways and transact only thru the cashless mode of payment of toll not later than 2 November 2020,” according to the department order of the DOTr.
Easytrip is currently being implemented by Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and covers the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Cavite-Manila Expressway (CAVITEX), and Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).
Meanwhile, the SMC Tollways Autosweep is being implemented on the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway, Tarlac – Pangasinan – La Union Expressway (TPLEX), and STAR Tollway.
The cashless payment toll will also include the NAIA Expressway (NAIAX) under Vertex Tollways Development, Inc.
According to TRB, the installation of RFID stickers is free. Only the load (P500 initial load) will be paid by motorists.
