Descendants of the Sun PH awarded Most Popular Foreign Drama in Seoul Drama Awards

The Philippine adaptation of Korea’s Descendants of the Sun (DOTS) has won the Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year at the 15th Seoul International Drama Awards.

The Most Popular Foreign Drama Award marked the first international recognition of GMA Network’s adapted popular series.

Kapuso primetime king Dingdong Dantes who played Song Joong ki’s role as Captain Lucas Manalo or “Big Boss” also won the Asian Star Prize.

Multi-awarded Pinay actress Jennylyn Mercado who played Song Hye Kyo’s role as Dr. Maxine or “Beauty”, Dantes, Rocco Nacino, and other cast members, as well as the series’ production team members, accepted the award for the series through recorded video messages posted on September 15, 2020.

DOTS Philippines is among the three TV dramas that received the award, alongside United States’ Snowpiercer and Italy’s The New Pope, in the South Korean event that saw 41 countries competing for awards.

The Seoul International Drama Awards ceremony was held at M.B.C. Media Center Public Hall without a live audience due to health and safety protocols imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
