Kristina Knott of the Philippines made history on Sunday after breaking another 33-year-old Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) record, this time in the 100-meter dash.
The national athlete broke fellow Filipino sprint champion Lydia de Vega’s SEA Games record made in 1987 as the former bagged 2nd place during competitions at the Drake Blue Oval Showcase in Iowa held on August 30, 2020 (Philippine Time).
The Filipino-American athlete clocked in at 11.27 seconds, slicing a fraction of De Vega’s 11.28 seconds record which ruled SEA athletic for over 3 decades. Knott won second place in the Des Moines event won by American Kayla White, who finished at 11.18 seconds.
Knott had previously also broken de Vega’s Asian record in the 200-meter dash with 23.01 seconds during her gold-winning performance at the SEA Games held in the Philippines in 2019.
Kristina Knott now holds the national record for both the 100 meters and the 200 meters.
Kristina Knott also won gold for Team Philippines at the 2019 Singapore Athletics.
Kristina Knott is vying for a spot on the Philippines’ delegation to the Tokyo Olympics that was rescheduled to 2021 amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
