The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) honored medical frontliners to mark the 113th Founding Anniversary of the Philippine General Hospital.
Founded on August 17, 1907, the PGH is a tertiary state-owned hospital administered and operated by the University of the Philippines Manila. It currently serves as a COVID-19 referral center.
For its founding anniversary this year, the PGH celebration carries the theme “Tuloy Tuloy na Bayanihan Para sa Pag-galing ng Bayan” (Solidarity Continues For The Nation’s Healing).
National Museum posted its tribute on social media with a photo of the painting of “Progress of Medicine in the Philippines” by National Artist Carlos ‘Botong’ V. Francisco which was commissioned in 1953 to depict the history of Philippine medicine.
The last panel of the four-panel large-scale painting series depicts the PGH at the forefront of modern medicine in the Philippines.
The painting has been on display in the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila since 2012.
The NMP says visitors could view the painting and the rest of the series on display at the National Museum of Fine Arts once the museum is authorized to open.
The NMP lauded the hospital’s healthcare providers who are working tirelessly amid the COVID-19 pandemic as the designated as the National University Hospital and the country’s largest government facility and referral center run by the University of the Philippines.
The museum also called on people to donate and volunteer for the UP-PGH Bayanhina Na Operations Center by calling its hotline 155200 or go to the website in this link.
The National Museum opened its doors to the general public for free beginning in 2016.
