Motorcycle-hailing app Angkas is offering free rides to medical frontliners in Metro Manila during the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).
The transportation app will be providing 1,000 motorcycle riders to 11 hospitals in the Metro Manila which were identified by the Department of Health.
The Angkas free ride service started August 8 until August 18 – the last day of the MECQ.
These are the guidelines for the Angkas service:
- Participating hospitals will be informing their staff of the service. Health workers should coordinate with their HR/admin
- Bring own helmets with a full-faced visor to minimize transmission
- Bring ID or proof that you are a medical frontliner
Angkas chief transport personnel, George Royeca said that the availability of the riders will be based on the hospital’s schedule, which is why their group is in close coordination with the DOH particularly with each of the hospitals.
The hospitals covered by the free service are:
1. Philippine General Hospital
2. San Lazaro Hospital
3. Ospital ng Sampaloc
4. East Avenue Medical Center
5. Tala Hospital
6. National Kidney and Transplant Institute
7. Quezon City General Hospital
8. Lung Center of the Philippines
9. Quirino Memorial Medical Center
10. Ospital ng Maynila
11. Fabella Hospital
Angkas also donated 1,000 barrier shields to the Philippine National Police which will be distributed to health workers and other civilians who are primarily using motorcycles for transportation during the pandemic.
Royeca said that this is just one of the measures that the government and private sectors are doing to alleviate the burden of medical frontliners by providing assistance to them.
The Pasig River Ferry is also staying open to service frontliners in Metro Manila under the MECQ.
Health workers can also catch free rides to hospitals using Google Maps.
