TampiPizza by BrickOven Cafe
BrickOven Café, located in Pila, Laguna, serves its mouthwatering pizzas in ‘tampipi’ boxes. The restaurant opened just this May 2020, but their innovative use of environmentally friendly packaging has already garnered much attention from netizens.
Each native box is handwoven from dried pandan leaves by locals from the mountains of Laguna.
Dubbed as “TampiPizza”, the resto says it drew inspiration from owner Dennise Porca’s family business.
Before the tampipi boxes, the café had already been making strides toward an eco-friendly option to serve customers. They started the eco-friendly initiative by making use of leaf fiber straws instead of plastic strings for tying up their pizza boxes.
The reusable tampipi box is an optional upgrade. Porca says customers can still opt for the regular carton pizza boxes, but choosing the tampipi box will give them a 3-5% discount on succeeding orders.

Beachside Pizza by Aqwa Siargao
Similarly, a beachfront bar in Siargao Island announced on July 29 that they would start using eco-friendly takeaway pizza containers. Aqwa Siargao is situated on a popular surfing beach.
The restaurant adds that the tampipi boxes will help local Tangbo weavers earn extra income amid the pandemic. They also encouraged more island businesses to adapt the environment-friendly packaging.
“As the first one to use this for take away (in Siargao), we would be happy to see this initiative happening in the whole island,” Aqwa Siargao said in a Facebook post.
