The Philippines’ remake of the K-drama hit “Descendants of the Sun (DOTS)” has been nominated at the 2020 Seoul International Drama Awards in South Korea.
The DOTS Pinoy remake of the 2016 South Korean popular drama series which aired on GMA Network in February and was halted in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, was chosen to compete in the Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year category.
The DOTS PH series that claimed the top spot on Twitter and Google Trends during its pilot episode will go against “Snowpiercer” from the United States, a drama which is also based on Korean content, and The New Pope co-produced by Sky Atlantic and HBO.
The original Descendants of the Sun starred former Korean couple Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo. The Filipino version is top-billed by actor-reservist and GMA Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes who plays the character of Big Boss Lucas Manalo and multi-awarded Pinay actress Jennylyn Mercado as Dr. Maxine Dela Cruz.
The 15th Seoul International Drama Awards will be streamed online on September 15.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN actress Bela Padilla is up for the Best Actress award while her crime drama series “Sino ang Maysala: Mea Culpa” will compete for the Best Serial Drama Award.
Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards was awarded the Asian Star Prize in last year’s Seoul International Drama Awards.
