The COVID 19 pandemic has brought out everyday heroes that showed how Filipinos still shine brightly even in the midst of a crisis as showcased by the Good Light Message of Hope collaborative project between Good News Pilipinas and the Liter of Light.
The Good Light Message of Hope Heroes and their quiet good deeds kept people going forward amid the uncertainties. The campaign shone the light on these everyday heroes using solar messaging captured in video and published feature articles to send out inspiration to the world.
These first batch of 10 Good Light Message of Hope Heroes – students, teachers, workers, social entrepreneurs, creative artists, journalists, social media influencers, athletes – shared their messages to inspire the world during the Enhanced Community Quarantine enforced in the Philippines.
Hannah Labrador of UP Visayas
Hannah is one of the students who were stranded in their dormitories due to the ECQ. Instead of spending their free time worrying, the University of the Philippines students created face shields for medical frontliners in Iloilo.
“We don’t know what’s going to happen today or tomorrow but that shouldn’t stop us from looking forward to when things start getting better. If humans know how to do one thing well it’s to survive. We will get better. WE WILL GET WELL. The sun will shine again after these dark days pass and life will start moving again,” said the UP student.
Filipina teen gymnast Jessica Rayne Tijam
Jessica kept herself on top form during the lockdown and took the opportunity to teach Filipino athletes in online workshops.
“We should all KEEP LOOKING UP to God and trust that he will lead us in the right direction for the prizes we wish to reach,” said the national athlete.
Trixie Esguerra, Positivitrix Vision Board Coach
Trixie of Positivitrix and Good News Pilipinas TV shared her blessings to the fundraising project for frontliners and affected families in Laguna and went on Facebook live to feature inspirational Filipinos around the world.
“+ Stay Positive, not with COVID-19 but with thoughts and prayers that everything will be soon okay. Let us remember that there is power in positive thinking,” said the vision board coach.
Agnes Hannah Balibay
Agnes is the youngest Good Light advocate. She sent her donation to the UP-PGH COVID-19 Operation Center Bayanihan Na!
“WE WILL SURVIVE,” said the 10-year-old writer for Good News Pilipinas.
Illac Diaz, Filipino innovator and the founder of Liter of Light
Illac is doing his share by anonymously donating to different charities to aid the affected families and the frontliners combating the coronavirus disease.
“Stand Together. We will win this battle against coronavirus disease if we stand together and if we stand for one another,” encouraged the internationally-awarded social entrepreneur.
Romeo Dela Cruz, Jr.
Romeo shared his blessings by donating much needed personal protective equipment for doctors stationed at the Philippine General Hospital, a COVID-19 treatment center.
“MAKIISA, TUMULONG. Everyone’s cooperation is needed to #FlattentheCurve. We will emerge victorious against the COVID-19 pandemic because of our collective efforts. Let’s help our frontliners in this battle!” encouraged the creative artist.
Anjanette Tadena, UP Los Baños alumna and Agriculturist
Anjanette set up a Kindness Station in San Carlos City, Pangasinan, where her neighbors, families of farmers, tricycle drivers, and construction workers, got the items they needed while Luzon was on lockdown.
“KAPIT BISIG. We will combat Covid19 if we work hard and just like what we are doing in Bayanihan para sa mga Magsasaka and Kindness Station, we’re lending a hand to those who badly need help,” shared the agriculturist.
Rosanni Recreo Sarile, Professor and culture advocate
Professor Rosanni anonymously sent her donations to various charities to aid frontliners and poor families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“TIME TO REFLECT. Now that the world is taking a pause due to the on-going enhanced community quarantine to stop the spread of COVID-19, may we re-calibrate our thoughts about life, examine our actions towards our kababayans, and strengthen our faith to God,” said the teacher and cultural worker.
CNN Philippines senior anchor Rico Hizon
Rico shared his blessings to the Munting Tahanan ng Nazareth in Mabalacat Pampanga. He also interviewed a Good Light Message of Hope organizer for his newscast that he ends on a positive note.
“FILIPINOS FIGHT & WIN,” declared the multi-awarded broadcast journalist.
Rotary Club of Makati Business District
The Rotary Club shared their blessings with various charities combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
“WALK THE TALK. We have to practice what we preach. Let’s help our frontliners and kababayans with actions and sincerity!” said the socio-civic group.
