Philippines’ EJ Obiena joins top pole vaulter virtual battle of 2021 Tokyo Olympians

The Philippines’ top pole vaulter Ernest John “EJ” Obiena is set to return to competition and battle fellow 2021 Tokyo Olympians in a virtual contest this coming August.

Obiena announced on July 28, 2020, his return to competition after earlier international events were postponed when the coronavirus disease started spreading worldwide.

The Filipino champion athlete will join the virtual battle of the Finest Pole Vaulter against Tokyo Olympics qualifiers from Poland and the United States.

EJ Obiena, currently ranked #16 on the World Athletics Rankings, will be pitted against World #8 Paweł Wojciechowski of Poland and World #29 Matt Ludwig of the United States.

The three Tokyo Olympics pole vaulters will be streamed live on the Fine Guard Sport website as they vault in their respective training locations.

The Finest Pole Vaulter in the World competition streams live on August 17 starting at 9 p.m. (Philippine Time) on the Finest Vaulter site in this link.

EJ Obiena is the Philippines’ first qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics. He returned to training in Italy in May when the facilities reopened.
