The Philippine Science High School (PSHS) System, an attached agency of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has won 1st place in the Queensland University of Technology’s Impact Stories Awards.

PSHS’ Impact Story on the “Global Education for the Filipino Youth” won the top award among the 56 stories of societal impact recognized by the Queensland University of Technology on July 3, 2020.

PSHS Executive Director Lilia Habacon received the award on behalf of the seven directors who developed an international-level curriculum for the state school.

The PSHS curriculum that has been used in the 16 PSHS campuses nationwide has been described as at par with the global standard and producing students who have been achieving record after record in both local and international fields.

PSHS Directors Gene Andres, Elsie Ferrer, Conrad Rotor, Shena Faith Ganela, Jess Yazon, Delia Legaspino, and Lilia Habacon curated the high school’s award-winning 6-Year Curriculum Framework after participating in the Australia Awards Fellowship in 2014.

First place of the QUT Impact Stories Awards goes to PSHS for providing global education for the Filipino youth.

As of early July 2020, PSHS students have ranked in the 93rd percentile in Mathematics in the US-Based Scholastic Aptitude Test and are top-ranked in their performance at the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT).

PSHS scholars in 2019 numbered 8,864, nearly double of the 2014’s 4,584 scholars.

Student testimonies in the Impact Stories Awards video entry say that they have become global-minded, socially-aware, and competitive learners. These students have brought home 93 awards from competitions abroad.

In a DOST Report, Secretary Fortunato De La Peña congratulated the school and their 1,254 graduates, 83% of which are recipients of a DOST college scholarship.

To take another step forward in the country’s STEM field, DOST is already offering 2021 STEM scholarships for senior high-schoolers.

Earlier this year, a total of 9,788 graduating senior high school students were welcomed as science ambassadors and qualified for DOST scholarships.
