The Philippines on Minecraft has been built by YouTuber Von Brix Caliva aka BrixBuilds who recreated iconic Filipino pride symbols that tie to the country’s history, geography, and culture.
The first episode of Minecraft Pilipinas showcases Minecraft-made homages to ten renowned destinations in the Philippines.
The BrixBuilds channel’s PixelCraftTV 018 video released on May 18, 2020, exhibits the creative use of Minecraft by making models of well-known or popular architectural landmarks and nature parks.
The YouTube video that runs over 5 minutes pumps up Filipino pride by showing the different Minecraft replicas of Philippine destinations with the nationalistic song “Bayan Ko” by Constancio de Guzman playing in the background.
The video starts off with the Philippine fabric T’nalak as the background of the title “Pilipinas” written in the Philippine ancient script of Baybayin and opens to a world of the country’s rich heritage.
Minecraft Pilipinas Episode 1 features the following:
- Calle Crisologo, Vigan, Ilocos Sur
- Barasoain Church, Malolos City, Bulacan
- Dambana ng Kagitingan, Mt. Samat, Bataan
- Fort Santiago, Intramuros, Manila
- Rizal Park, Ermita, Manila
- Corregidor Island, Cavite City, Cavite
- Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine, Kawit, Cavite
- Magellan’s Cross, Cebu City, Cebu
- Zamboanga Peninsula, Region X
- 7 Falls, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato
Here are five Minecraft builds and their actual counterparts:
The Minecraft replica of Fort Santiago’s gate has already been praised by the Intramuros Administration on their Facebook page and used as an example of “touring from home.” Caliva intends to recreate more of these tour sites and landmarks in future videos.
Other such creators, like JB Cunanan and Fred Tacla, rebuilt Minecraft homages to their alma maters, UP Diliman and UP Los Baños, respectively.
Not only can this game be used to be a medium of creativity, but it can also be a medium of information and education. Good News Pilipinas contributor Agnes Hannah Q. Balibay utilized this by teaching COVID-19 safety tips through the game.
