Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray has raised 5 million pesos through the “No Work, No Rice” fundraiser to feed thousands of families in Tondo, Manila, affected by the economic slowdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Together with her charity Young Focus Philippines, Gray successfully wrapped up the campaign and announced on Instagram on June 26, 2020, they were able to distribute 100,000 kgs. of rice.
“We actually finished our last distribution of rice last week, Thursday, and I wanted to share the amazing news that we raised P5 million, which equates to around $100,000,” Gray said.
The beauty queen-singer and Young Focus PH started their initiative when they fed 1,000 families in Smokey Mountain, Tondo on March 24.
As they have reached the end of the project, the humanitarian beauty queen expressed her gratitude to all the generous people who made the campaign possible.
“Thank you for your generosity and kindness. We couldn’t have done it without you. God bless you all. Thank you, thank you so much,” she said.
According to the managing director of Young Focus, Paul Van Wijgerden, the campaign started from a small beginning until Gray helped them out.
Gray previously showed the organization’s effort through a short video accompanied by her song “We’re in this Together” featuring the real-life situation of the people affected by the pandemic in Tondo.
After the “No Work, No Rice” campaign of Young Focus PH, Catriona announced that they will be having another project in relation to children’s education which places a great part in her advocacy as MU.
“Stay tuned, we’re working on our next initiatives geared towards overcoming the challenges associated with giving access to quality education to Filipino youth who don’t currently have access to gadgets or internet that’s required for online learning. And we will definitely need your help once more. ”
The beauty queen is known for her humanitarian works as she recently put up her Miss Universe pin to support Angel Locsin & Anne Curtis’ Shop & Share mass testing fundraiser and visited children with cleft lips and palates in La Union.
