Bulacan NLEX Philippine Arena interchange reopens on August 1 to decongest traffic

The Bocaue, Bulacan section of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) is scheduled to reopen the Philippine Arena Interchange on Saturday to decongest traffic.

The Philippine Arena Interchange reopening follows the recent opening of the Tambobong Interchange and is seen to contribute to the decongestion of Bocaue Interchange and in easing mounting traffic along Governor F. Halili Road in Bocaue-Sta.Maria corridor.

NLEX Corporation announced the reopening of the interchange which was closed due to its proximity to COVID 19 quarantine facilities in the Philippine Arena Complex.

The reopening of the NLEX Philippine Arena Interchange would require motorists to adhere to contactless transactions using RFID. Motorists without RFID would be first required to sign up for the RFID account at installation points along the expressway.

“The interchange is surrounded by a mega quarantine facility, a prospective terminal for northern provincial buses—both are inside the Philippine Arena complex, and a molecular testing laboratory located at the western portion,” NLEX Corp. president and general manager J. Luigi L. Bautista said in a statement.

“For everyone’s safety, we are implementing the RFID-only policy at the interchange. This would ensure physical distancing through cashless payments,” the NLEX chief added.

The NLEX Harbor Link Navotas City section was opened in June to cut travel to 20 minutes. The completion of the NLEX Harbor Link, one of the major road projects targeted to be finished in 2020, is expected to eventually cut travel time from the Port Area in Manila to NLEX to just 10 minutes.
