Barista Shamed By Customer Receives More Than $100,000 From Netizens

It has been months since the c0r0navirus pandemic began, but we are still far from going back to normal.

Some businesses and establishments have gone back in operation, however, protective measures still must be followed.

Part of our “new normal” is wearing a face mask. Wearing one will help us protect ourselves from contracting the highly contagious COVID-19 virus.

Nowadays, there are many kinds of masks that people can purchase or make. However, there are still selfish people who do not want to wear one.

Just like this ‘Karen’ who refused to wear one, even if it’s mandatory. The term ‘Karen’ is an internet slang for entitled white people, who think they are above the law.

Recently, a ‘Karen’ went viral after ranting on Facebook on how a Starbucks barista refused to serve her because she was not wearing a mask.

Amber Lynn Gilles ranted on Facebook and shamed barista Lenen for refusing to serve her.

“Meet Lenen from Starbucks who refused to serve me cause I’m not wearing a mask. Next time I will wait for cops and bring a medical exemption.” wrote Gilles.

But much to her shock, her rant backfired when she received tons of hate and criticisms from netizens. The United States is now the country with most cases of COVID-19, yet a lot of Americans still refuses to protect themselves and other people.

Instead of gaining sympathy, what Gilles got is a downpour of criticism. On the other hand, Lenen receives a lot of support from netizens, that one of them even set up a gofundme for him.

Netizen Matt Cowan started a fundraising called “Tips for Lenin Standing Up to a San Diego Karen” to show support for the barista.

As of this writing, they already gathered $103,888 or roughly PHP 5 million.
